Shekhar Vyas, an alumnus of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Karnataka, India has around 31 years of experience in the areas of Commercial Laws, Arbitration and Tax Laws. Shekhar specializes in the practice of Indirect Tax, particularly in the area of Goods and Services Tax, Central Excise, Customs, Exim matters, Service Tax and Anti-Dumping Laws etc. and Commercial Arbitrations involving the laws of Contract, Shipping, Banking, Documentary Credits, amongst others. Shekhar is the Counsel for the Government of India in the Supreme Court of India, Standing Counsel for the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and also represents Power Grid Corporation of India, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation [India] and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation [India]. Shekhar had earlier practiced for eight years with a leading Indian law firm, Lakshmi Kumaran & Sridharan, Solicitors & Advocates specializing in the practice of Indirect Tax, Anti-Dumping and Trade laws.
Shekhar has also worked with Mr. Harish Salve, Senior Advocate and Former Solicitor General of India and also with Mr. Arun Jaitley, Senior Advocate and Union Minister for Finance, Government of India.
Shekhar regularly argues matters in the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Tribunal (CESTAT), India, various High Courts in India and the Supreme Court of India
Shekhar is a member of [Indian] Supreme Court Bar Association, Delhi High Court Bar Association and CESTAT Bar Association. Shekhar regularly speaks at various industry bodies and associations and is visiting faculty at various academic institutions.
